Function of Position

 

Responsible to the Director of Student Services for the recruitment, admission, orientation, registration and advisement of Bachelor of Science in Nursing students; provides professional, personal, and academic advising to undergraduate students and aggressively pursues efficient and effective recruitment opportunities at both the undergraduate and graduate level.

 

The position enables the College of Nursing to ensure that all undergraduate students receive correct and prompt information regarding offerings within the college, admission, progression and graduation policies, and creates a direct line of communication with each student. This advisor solidifies university and College of Nursing relationships with prospective, current students and alumni of all the nursing programs.

 

Essential Functions

 

-                Provides academic and personal advisement for prospective and enrolled BSN students.

-                Monitors academic progress of pre-nursing and nursing students.

-                Develops programs of study.

-                Outlines general education requirements.

-                Assists students in the interpretation of University and College of Nursing policies.

-                Recruits for undergraduate and graduate programs by developing recruitment strategies and maintaining relationships with university and outside constituents.

 

Secondary Functions

 

-                Serves on college, university and community committees.

-                Assist in review of applications.

-                Facilitates articulation and transfer agreements.

-                Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

-        Knowledge of counseling and advisement skills.

-        Knowledge of technical and time management skills.             

-        Ability to communicate, organize, and multitask effectively.

-        Ability to be dependable.

-        Ability to accomplish goals with minimum supervision

 

Supervision Given and Received

 

Performs under general supervision.  Determines own methods of performing assigned work. Indirectly supervises co-workers who are assisting on projects, support staff and student workers of the office.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Bachelor’s degree required; three years of related experience required; knowledge of basic counseling and advising techniques required.
