Function of Position

 

Provides advanced practice primary care in compliance with the Tennessee Nurse Practice Act; documents all services; collaborates with other clinic staff, clinic director, and preceptor; supervises staff as assigned; participates in quality assurance activities; demonstrates a commitment to serving vulnerable populations.

 

Essential Functions

 

-        Provides Advanced Practice Primary Care in compliance with the TN Nurse Practice Act.

-        Assesses, diagnoses, and treats acute and chronic illness.

-        Provides screening and health promotion.

-        Prescribes, issues and monitors drugs.

-        Provides patient and family education.

-        Complies with OSHA, HIPAA, CLIA, Medicare, Medicaid and other state and federal regulations.

-        Documents accurately all services, including electronic or hard copy patient charts, encounter forms, and coding.

-        Collaborates with the clinic staff, clinic director, and preceptor as needed to provide care.

-        Supervises staff as assigned.

-        Participates in quality assurance activities.

-        Evaluates own performance.

-        Identifies and implements actions for continuous quality improvement.

-        Participates in professional development to maintain certification and improve and update practice.

-        Demonstrates a commitment to serving vulnerable populations.

-        Treats all clients with respect.

 

Secondary Functions

 

-        Participates in community outreach and screening.

-        Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

-        Knowledge in assessment, diagnoses, and treatment of common acute and chronic health conditions.

-        Knowledge of recognized standards of care.

-        Knowledge of basic personnel/human resources theory and principles.

-        Ability to organize and set priorities.

-        Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written.

 

Supervision Given and Received

 

Performs under general supervision.  Determines own methods of performing assigned work.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Master’s in nursing; current certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner; licensure in the state of Tennessee as an RN and an Advanced Practice Nurse certificate and certificate of fitness to prescribe; and commitment to serving vulnerable populations. Preferred:  FNP with a broad range of clinical skills including pediatrics and women’s health; and a least one year experience in primary care as an advanced practice nurse.
