potential; Function of Position Responsible to the Director for assisting with daily office administrative functions; managing the daily operation of the LEAP program, a program funded by Vocational Rehabilitation designed to provide support and assistance to university students with disabilities; managing the fiscal aspects of the program; ensuring compliance with all related guidelines; providing personal counseling to students with disabilities; developing programs to enhance students academic and personal success; assisting students, staff and faculty with interpretation of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504; acting as director in his/her absence; and performing other related duties as assigned. Essential Functions - Acts as director in his/her absence. - Oversees day-to-day operations of contract/ grant; manages grant budget. - Develops individualized educational plans, i.e., academic, co-curricular, personal and academic advisement. - Evaluates effectiveness of LEAP program services. - Meets with students to provide tutorial services, counseling and daily mentoring. - Trains and supervises graduate assistants to provide tutorial services, required intensive student contact, counseling and daily mentoring. - Resolves conflicts between Vocational Rehabilitation/students and/or faculty/ students to ensure appropriate student services are provided. - Oversees case management for all students registered with Disability Services. - Oversees case management for LEAP program students. - Oversees peer mentoring program. - Hires and trains 20-30 peer mentors per semester. - Serves as liaison with local Tennessee Division of Vocational Rehabilitation regarding grant compliance. - Ensures grant compliance with the Tennessee Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. - Provides required correspondence to Vocational Rehabilitation counselors concerning student progress each semester. - Implements accommodations for self identified individuals with disabilities on campus, i.e, reader services, note taking services, testing proctors, physical accommodations, personal assistants, testing accommodations, testing scribes, and lab assistants. - Provides cost effective measures in coordinating accommodations for students with disabilities. - Ensures students, staff and faculty members needs are met in accordance with policies and procedures in the absence of the director. - Consults with faculty and administration on applying reasonable accommodations. - Assists with the evaluation of the effectiveness of Disability Services. Secondary Functions - Provides current data on Learning Disabled/Attention Deficit Disorder (LD/ADHD) population to grant funding source. - Coordinates the LEAP program advisory board; serves as ex-officio member to the board. - Provides monthly reports to the Tennessee Division of Rehabilitation Services. - Assists with revisions of the Faculty Handbook for Accommodating Students with Disabilities. - Assists with development of Disability Services Student Handbook. - Provides verification of testing accommodations as needed. - Provides information to campus administration regarding Vocational Rehabilitation and services to students with disabilities. - Assists in the development and implementation of a program orientation for students with disabilities entering the university. - Coordinates monthly disability services newsletter. - Develops and presents workshops for students with disabilities. - Serves on various university committees as assigned. - Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge and Abilities - Knowledge of psychological diagnostics and counseling. - Knowledge tutorial, remedial and learning style process techniques. - Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504. - Knowledge of service delivery systems for persons with disabilities. - Ability to function independently. - Ability to provide guidance to students with disabilities. Supervision Given and Received Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in counseling, special education or vocational rehabilitation; two to four years experience in higher education (administrative experience preferred); three years experience providing direct services to college students with disabilities.
