Function of Position

Responsible to the Director of Community Outreach and Regional Economic Development for the training and technical assistance of potential entrepreneurs and small business owners; scheduling and conducting regular business training classes throughout Washington and Johnson counties as part of the jurisdiction served by ETSU's Central Appalachian Microenterprise Project (CAMP); providing individual counseling with loan recipients and working in Washington and Johnson counties for business development; assisting with pre-loan process making recommendations to the loan review committee; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

-Conducts regular business training classes; arranges time and location of classes; and markets the classes (develops news releases, fliers and other materials).

-Consults with individuals who are interested in coming forward for a microenterprise loan; provides assistance with business plans and packaging the application for both staff review and the loan review committee; acts as an advocate for the applicant before the loan review committee.

-Provides post-loan consultations to successful applicants, including on-site visits, office consultation and telephone contact; assures that each business submits required financial reports and performs analysis of the reports.

Secondary Function

-Maintains chronological records of contact with business owner and other data as required by CAMP, the university, and funding sources.

-Assists in marketing efforts of the CAMP program, including occasional speaking events.

-Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

-Knowledge of start-up business training.

-Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.

-Knowledge of financial records and lending practices.

-Ability to communicate effectively.

-Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Supervision Given and Received

Performs under general supervision.  Determines own methods of performing assigned work.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required; training and/or experience in small business operations and/or small business ownership and entrepreneurial training experience required.
