Position Title:    Appalachian Youth Partnership Youth Coordinator

Function of Position

Responsible to the Assistant Vice President for Community Outreach for educational planning and monitoring for low income youth, age 14-18; working with school personnel to develop a comprehensive set of educational, social and support services designed to enhance successful progress in school; working with the Youth Development Specialist to identify part-time and summer jobs for students; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

-Provides educational planning and monitoring for low income youth.

-Refers students to educational/community resources.

-Provides youth leadership training.

-Provides job readiness training.

Secondary Functions

-Attends related school meetings.

-Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

-Knowledge of high school graduation requirements.

-Knowledge of academic planning.

-Knowledge of post-secondary training and employment opportunities.

-Knowledge of computers.

-Ability to communicate effectively with youth, teachers, parents and school personnel.

-Ability to motivate youth.

Supervision Given and Received

Performs under general supervision.  Determines own methods of performing assigned work.

Minimum Qualifications

B.S. degree required, preferably in education or counseling; one year experience supervising or leading youth activities, teams or leadership efforts.
