potential; Function of Position Responsible to the Vice Provost for Research and Sponsored Programs for coordinating and facilitating statewide activities for the Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Center under the auspices of the Governor's Highway Safety Office; facilitating training of individuals as child safety technicians and child safety technician trainers; maintaining all records of training activities; notifying individuals when recertification is necessary; and performing other related duties as assigned. Essential Functions
-Schedules
and monitors child passenger safety certification classes; plans training
classes inclusive of
-Maintains statewide CPS database of technicians and instructors. -Monitors database and notifies technicians and instructors when recertification is necessary. -Plans and coordinates statewide CPS conference. -Maintains calendar of CPS check up clinics. -Attends trade shows and safety fairs to promote child passenger safety. -Prepares quarterly and year-end reports as required by the Governor's Highway Safety Office. Secondary Functions -Writes annual work plans and attends annual/regional conferences and specialized meetings related to child passenger safety issues for continued growth and development. -Meets regularly with university faculty members who have specific work assignments concerning the objectives of the Child Passenger Safety Center (the board). -Maintains documentation/evaluation records including number of active participants and events, number of checkpoints conducted, number of individuals qualified for the various levels of CSS instructor, number of individuals trained, number of care seats given away at checkpoints, parent evaluation forms; analyzes evaluations. -Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge and Abilities -Knowledge of federal and state laws regarding child passenger safety. -Knowledge of marketing, sales, human resources and/or public relations. -Knowledge of the geography of the state of Tennessee. -Ability to plan effectively and meet deadlines. -Ability to read and interpret complex guidelines. -Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups. -Ability to design and deliver training programs. -Ability to interact with individuals from a broad variety of disciplines at the university level. -Ability to be a team member. -Ability to maintain a flexible schedule and travel as required. Supervision Given and Received Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree required; doctoral degree preferred; experience as an employee at an institution of higher education required; experience in conducting training workshops in proper installation of child safety car seats and child passenger safety required; experience working with Tennessee state government and in community liaison activities in leadership role.
