Function of Position

Responsible to the Assistant Vice President for working with middle school and high school students to encourage and support high school graduation and entry into post secondary school; providing individual and group counseling, academic support and career exploration activities; identifying student’s needs and interests and developing after-school and summer educational enrichment and advancement activities.

 

Essential Functions

-      Provides individual and group counseling.

-      Provides academic support and career exploration activities.

-      Identifies student’s needs and interests.

-      Develops after-school and summer educational enrichment and advancement activities.

 

Secondary Functions

-      Identifies community resources.

-      Provides all recordkeeping.

-      Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Abilities

-      Knowledge of middle and/or high school education and after school programs.

-      Knowledge of service learning and focused programs.

-      Knowledge of developmental needs of youth, educational planning and enrichment activities.

-      Ability to communicate effectively.

-      Ability to work with school personnel, community agencies and parents.

 

Supervision Given and Received

Performs under general supervision.  Determines own methods of performing assigned work.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; master’s preferred in Education, Behavioral Sciences, Counseling or Social Work; counseling experience preferred; experience working with middle school children preferred; training and experience in academic counseling and problem solving is highly desirable.
