Function of Position

 

Responsible to the Director, ETSU Bluegrass, Old Time and Country Music Program, for the use and maintenance of the recording laboratory; teaches; supports student public performances;  and performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Essential Functions

 

-    Supervises the use and maintenance of the recording laboratory and all associated equipment.

-    Operates sound reinforcement equipment for large and small venues, including student band

   performances.

-    Develops and teaches courses in the recording arts and operation of live sound reinforcement

   equipment.

  

Secondary Functions

 

-        Represents Bluegrass Program, CASS, and the university by supervising student public performances.

-        Advises students during orientation sessions.

-        Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

-        Knowledge of recording and sound reinforcement equipment.

         Knowledge of good recording techniques and production.

         Knowledge and understanding of the nature of acoustic music.

-        Ability to provide sound reinforcement for live performances, both large and small.

-        Ability to supervise students during performances.

-        Ability to organize and perform all responsibilities of a road manager including scheduling student band performances.

-        Ability to lead students in learning experiences in the recording laboratory and in the classroom.

-        Ability to communicate effectively.

-        Ability to establish positive working relationships with students, faculty and staff.

 

Supervision Given and Received

 

Performs under general supervision.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Bachelor’s degree in recording arts or other appropriate field required; five years professional experience in at least one of the following areas:  high level professional sound reinforcement; engineering; and/or record production.
