National Depression Screening Day

National Depression Screening Day is October 8, 2009

Depression is the leading cause of disability in the United States affecting 9.9 million American adults or 5% of the adult population in a given year.  It is an illness that you can get help from and feel relief.  Being in a "blue mood" sometimes is a normal part of life.  However, when depression symptoms just won't go away and the depression starts to interfere with your ability to function, it is time to seek help.

Depression Screening is being conducted for employees throughout the state.  Please go to the website: www.mentalhealthscreening.org for the location nearest you.  The EAP offers telephonic depression and substance abuse screenings toll free at 1-866-249-1580 as well as online screening at www.magellanhealth.com/member.  Enter Unregistered with 800-308-4934 and go to Tools- Assessments for a confidential screening.  Articles on Depression are also available at that website.  Remember, help is available.
