Definition     

This class is under general supervision and serve as lead worker on a shift to other bakers in a Cafeteria operation and perform related work as required. 

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Serve as lead worker to bakers on a shift for a Cafeteria.

Bakes breads, rolls, cakes, pies, and desserts according to production sheets.

Mixes batters and ensures proper baking times.

Ensures requested items are prepared in a timely manner.

Receives and inspects bakery supplies for use in menu items.

May also cook for portion of time.

Performs other work as assigned. 

Required Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of modern methods, materials and equipment used in food service.

Knowledge of health hazards and proper precautionary measures used in food preparation.

Knowledge of modern baking techniques.

Knowledge of methods and principles of supervision.

Ability to coordinate work of cooks engaged in food preparation and baking.

Ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness.

Ability to instruct and train new employees.

Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely, and convincingly.

Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions.

Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees. 

Recommended Qualifications

Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school. Experience as a baker in a food service operation. Applicants should possess a current health card issued by the County Health Department.
