Evaluations News

TO: All Supervisors and Employees
FROM: Human Resources
SUBJECT: Annual Performance Evaluations, March 1, 2011 – February 29, 2012
DATE: February 8, 2012

East Tennessee State University has a firm commitment to the performance evaluation of university personnel, whatever their category and level, through the medium of a formalized system. The primary purpose of such evaluation is to assist personnel in professional development, and in achieving university goals. In addition, the performance evaluation system provides an opportunity for each employee to discuss job problems and interests with his/her supervisor.

Annual Performance Evaluations are performed for all regular full-time and regular part-time (non-faculty) employees with six (6) months or more of service.  Temporary employees, graduate assistants and student workers are not evaluated through this system.  Employees with less than six (6) months of service at the university are evaluated using the separate probationary evaluation process.

Annual Performance Evaluations are conducted through the eValuations System.  eValuations allows supervisors and employees to view and complete job evaluations on-line, make comments about the evaluation, and submit the evaluations electronically through the appropriate signatory chain to Human Resources. eValuations will also store historical evaluations so that employees and supervisors will always have access to past evaluations.

The Office of Human Resources will be offering an annual evaluation update/refresher session entitled Conducting Effective Evaluations on February 16, from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., D.P. Culp Center, Forum Room; and, 1:30 p.m.- 3:30 p.m., Bldg. 178, C-000 (VA campus).  This session addresses the benefits of evaluations; tips and pitfalls in conducting evaluations; and, how to efficiently conduct evaluations using ETSU’s electronic eValuations system.   The session training materials will be subsequently posted to the Human Resources website.

All Annual Performance evaluations must be completed and received electronically by Human Resources by March 31, 2012.  All supervisors will receive notification via e-mail between February 21 – 24 that their employee evaluations are ready for processing.

Please call Human Resources at 423-439-5825 if you have additional questions.  Thank you.

Subject: 2010-11 Annual Evaluations Cycle has begun!/Logging in to your Evaluation

In order to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of your evaluations, the Office of Human Resources created an Employee Portal in the eValuations system, which is accessible using your ETSU E-number.  All evaluations completed in the eValuations system will be stored in the Employee Portal and are accessible at any time.  You can access this information at https://jobs.etsu.edu/hr. Your user name will be your ETSU E-number (E00000000). Logging in through the Employee Portal is the only way to access your personal evaluation.

If you reviewed your 2009-10 annual evaluation through the eValuations system, you will log in using the password you set during your initial log-in.

If you have never used the eValuations system, your initial password will be set to your E-number.  The system will prompt you to change this password during your initial log-in.

For additional instructions on using the eValuations system, see this short training video: http://www.etsu.edu/humanres/videos/eValuationsEmployee.wmv (no longer available)

If you do not know your password or experience trouble logging in to the system, please call our office at 9-5825.

The primary purpose of such evaluation is to assist personnel in professional development, and in achieving University goals. In addition, the performance evaluation system provides an opportunity for each employee to discuss job problems and interests with his/her supervisor.

Significant improvements have been made to the eValuations system:

  • To assist supervisors and to ensure that employees are evaluated using the proper electronic form, all employee eValuations will be initially generated by Human Resources.  Supervisors will receive separate email notifications for each of their employees, notifying them that an electronic eValuation is ready for processing and review.

  • The work-flow for approving eValuations has been simplified.  Two new user types, Reviewing Official 1 and Reviewing Official 2 have been created.

  • To enhance system security, Employee User access has been separated from other types of eJobs User access (i.e., Supervisor, Department Authority, etc.).  All employees will use their ETSU E-number as their User Name for reviewing their own personal evaluation.

These changes will be covered extensively in the Annual Evaluation Update/Refresher Course and subsequently posted on-line.

All users involved in completing and/or reviewing evaluations are encouraged to attend an Update/Refresher training class.

All Annual Performance evaluations must be completed and received electronically by Human Resources by March 31, 2011.  All Supervisors will receive notification via e-mail between February 18 – 25 that their employee(s) evaluation is ready for processing.

The Office of Human Recourses will be e-mailing mass updates shortly:

  • All Employees will receive an e-mail with instructions on how to log into eValuations using their E-number.

  • All Reviewing Officials will receive an e-mail with instructions on how to log into eValuations using this new User Type.

Please call Human Resources at 423-439-5825 if you have additional questions.  Thank you.

SUBJECT:       Annual Performance Evaluations (March 1, 2009 – February 28, 2010)
DATE:             March 11, 2010

Dear eValuations Employee Users,

The new eValuations electronic system for processing annual employee evaluations is active.  For those employees who were unable to attend an employee training session, the Office of Human Resources has a brief (2 minutes) instructional video.  The video demonstrates the process each employee will use to review his/her annual evaluation, and submit the evaluation back to his/her supervisor.

The video is located at http://elearning.etsu.edu/eval/employee.html.

For instructions on how to log-on to the system, please review: http://www.etsu.edu/humanres/videos/eValuationsEmployee.wmv.  A user account has already been created for all employees, you do not need to create an account.

When your supervisor submits your evaluation to you for your review, you will receive an e-mail from the eJobs/eValuations online system, sent by “do-not-reply@etsu.edu”.

For technical assistance, or if you did not receive an eValuations login card (delivered to you by your Supervisor), please check with your Supervisor or contact: David Smith, Technical Coordinator, 9-5890 or .

Note : if you are already a Supervisor, Requestor, or Approver in the eJobs advertisement/hiring system, you will need to change your user type to review your own eValuation.  Click " Change User Type" on the main page after logging into the system and choose "Employee."  You do not need to create a new account.

Thank you.
