JOB PURPOSE

 

Work performed in a variety of skilled maintenance tasks including carpentry, painting, plumbing, and masonry and performing related work as required.

 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

-          Performs a variety of carpentry tasks in the construction and maintenance of buildings and other facilities

-          Performs a variety of plumbing tasks such as removing, replacing or repairing plumbing fixtures, water lines, etc.

-          Performs work of an unskilled, semi-skilled, or skilled nature when necessary such as painting, masonry, etc.

-          Performs other work as assigned

 

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS

 

-          All incumbents are expected to perform these functions except for those qualifying under the Americans with Disabilities Act for a reasonable accommodation.

-          These functions may vary by institution. 

-          Incumbents may provide backup to various functions within the unit.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

 

Completion of the tenth grade; experience in building and plant maintenance involving a variety of work such as carpentry, painting, plumbing and masonry

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND WORKER CHARACTERISTICS

 

-          Knowledge of methods, material, and procedures used in general repair and

-          maintenance work

-          Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions

-          Knowledge of machines, tools, and equipment used in a variety of tasks as required

-          Ability to follow instructions

-          Ability to use, clean, repair and maintain equipment, tools, and machinery required in accomplishing tasks

-          Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions

-          Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees
