DEFINITION

Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in the design and implementation of program goals and classroom objectives for children ages 3 and 4 years old.
 

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

- Under the direction of the director of the Early Learning Center, develops and prepares the curriculum consisting of lesson plans and teaching units designed for both individual and group learning situations.

- Directs all activities of children in the daycare program, preparing and presenting educational materials; coordinating classroom activities.

- Supervises college students in the Child Care Technology program who use the Early Learning Center for the practicum component of their technology program.

- Maintains communication with Early Learning Center director and parents pertaining to the development of the children; conducts parent conferences.

- Establishes student records, evaluates students and updates data regularly to reflect progress.

- Conducts student selection process for Early Learning Center program; involves personal visits to homes of students selected for enrollment; registers students.

- Organizes and develops visual aids and classroom decorations for new curriculum units, plan annual parent night festivities.

- Prepares materials requisitions as needed, performs routine cleaning duties, other work as assigned.
 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

- Professional knowledge of instructional methods, materials and program development.

- Knowledge of psychological and biological needs of children.

- Ability to organize recreational activities associated with creative play.

- Ability to make decisions, both within and without the guidelines of established procedures.

- Ability to establish and maintain an effective teaching/working relationship with the children, parents, and other employees.
 

RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from an accredited two year program with an associate degree in child care technology. Experience in developing and maintaining all aspects of child care educational programs.
