DEFINITION

Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in cataloging slides, making photographic copy slides, and providing patron service. Performs other duties as assigned.
 

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

- Completes systematic search for a particular subject.

- Obtains or completes descriptive information for cataloging.

- Supervises student workers.

- Selects and assembles photographic equipment and photographs subject to make photographic copy slides.

- Assists patrons in location of materials as requested.

- Checks materials in and out.

- Notifies faculty of arrival of new materials.

- Corresponds with slide curators at other universities concerning procedures.

- Mounts slides.

- Inventories, orders and maintains equipment and materials.

- Selects slides to be ordered and receives slide requests.

- Submits budget requests and purchase orders.

- May oversee, direct or check work of temporary employees and/or lower level clerical employees.

- Keeps various records such as current listing of films which may be rented from non-university sources.

- Performs other duties as assigned.
 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

- Ability to organize one's own work.

- Ability to work independently (without close supervision).

- Knowledge of library filing and classifications systems.

- Ability to explain procedures verbally and by demonstration.

- Ability to deal with a variety of people.

- Ability to record information.

- Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of procedures.

- Willingness to work with others.

- Ability to proof written materials.

- Ability to extract information from conversations and/or documents.
 

RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Bachelor's degree in Art History, Library Science, or a related field preferred. Experience in processing orders and record keeping desired.
