Message from the Chief Information Officer

Karen King, CIO and Senior Vice Provost for Information Technology Services

The merger of the Office of Information Technology and the Office of eLearning begins a time of great excitement for the future of technology services at East Tennessee State University. I am honored to be a part of the resulting combined unit, which is moving forward as Information Technology Services (ITS). The goal for this new technology team is to bring world-class service to the teaching, learning, and research that make ETSU a great university. During the next few months we will be developing a plan for providing optimal support for our students, faculty, and staff including systems that support all aspects of technology efficiency at the university.

Our initial focus will be on building a team that will deliver the most innovative and cost effective information technology solutions. I will spend time meeting with each member of the newly created ITS team individually, evaluating the operations and strategies currently in place, and creating a plan for improvements in research computing, bandwidth, customer service, administrative computing, web services, and online education.

As many of you know, my prior role at ETSU was as Vice Provost for Academic Technology and Executive Director of eLearning and Online Education. I will continue in that role, but will also assume the role of Chief Information Officer and Senior Vice Provost for Information Technology Services. I believe the synergy of these two groups will enable accomplishments well beyond separate efforts.

The future of technology at East Tennessee State University is changing rapidly and we are changing with it. It is my goal to enhance the services we will provide to the university by leveraging the best in talent, technology, and IT practice and through an approach that is not only innovative, but crafted to meet the university's distinctive needs.

Below is a web form that submits comments directly to me. Please feel free to let me know about issues you have with technology services on campus. But please don't stop there, I welcome the ideas and innovations our faculty, staff, and students. With your help, we can shape the future of technology at East Tennessee State University.

I look forward to working with all of you in the future.

Karen King
