Capturing and Telling Your Community’s Cancer Story

Mountain Empire Older Citizens (MEOC) in Big Stone Gap, VA was awarded the contract for training community members and assisting them in developing their unique community cancer story. Communities from Virginia and the bordering states were invited to apply and three communities were chosen to participate in this project. These communities are Wetzel County in West Virginia, Webster County in West Virginia and Burke County in North Carolina.

These communities have each completed their story projects as part of this opportunity. However - each is using the story circle process to develop new and ongoing story events in their communities. Each community would love to perform/share their final product. More information is coming soon, but if you don't want to wait, call or email Jill!

This project has been very well received, and several more communities are eager to be involved. There is currently no plan to extend this project, but the third phase of the larger project may include storytelling opportunities, so stay tuned!
