Defining Microenterprise

Definitions of microenterprise vary.  The maximum number of employees of microenterprises from one to ten, most having less than five.  Start-up capital needs vary, generally not to exceed $25,000.  Microenterprises may be sole proprietorships, partnerships, family businesses, or corporations.

Microenterprise Development

The Central Appalachian Microenterprise Project can offer technical assistance, as well as access to microenterprise loan funds.  Technical assistance may take the form of classroom training and/or individual counseling.  Microenterprise loan funds are structured to make loans to individuals much like traditional bank lending model.
