Analysis Paper 2 Assignment

Deadline 4/19/2000, 6 p.m.
We will have an informal in-class discussion of the papers you have written; please bring one extra copy.

Using Hendrix's Rope Model, analyze case 3-3 in the Hendrix text, Monsanto's Rural Flood Relief Fund.

Engage in some critical thinking and write a concise (yet thorough), insightful paper with a meaningful title.  Ensure that you
discuss all four areas of the Rope Model (Research, Objectives, Programming and Evaluation).  In addition to explaining what was done in the case, discuss strengths and weaknesses in each of the four areas of the Rope Model and what you feel could have been done to strengthen the media relations campaign.

The use of an outline before writing and subheads in the paper (Introduction, Research, Objectives, Programming, Evaluation and Discussion) will greatly aid the quality and organization of the paper.

Here's a simple outline that may help you write the paper:

I. Introduction
Give an overview or background on the PR case.  Explain the situation briefly.

II. Research
    A. explain what Monsanto did (include all aspects of research in the Rope Model)
    B. discuss strengths and weaknesses of what Monsanto did
    C. offer your insight into what could have been done to improve the research stage of the PR plan

III. Objectives
    A. explain what Monsanto's objectives were (include all aspects of objectives in the Rope Model)
    B. discuss strengths and weaknesses of Monsanto's objectives
    C. offer your insight into what could have been done to improve the objective stage of the PR plan

IV. Programming
    A. explain what Monsanto did (include all aspects of programming in the Rope Model)
    B. discuss strengths and weaknesses of Monsanto's programming
    C. offer your insight into what could have been done to improve the programming stage of the PR plan

V. Evaluation
    A. explain what Monsanto did (include all aspects of evaluation in the Rope Model)
    B. discuss strengths and weaknesses of Monsanto's evaluation
    C. offer your insight into what could have been done to improve the evaluation stage of the PR plan

VI. Discussion
Give a brief overall assessment of the PR program plan for media relations as it was conducted by Monsanto.  Present your recommendations to improve each aspect of the PR program plan (again, using the Rope Model).

Use 1-inch margins, 12-point Times-Roman, double-spaced type.  Target length is two to three pages, excluding the title page.

Here's a link to the Rope Model for your review.  It would be a good idea to re-read and study Chapter 2 in Hendrix for a thorough review of the Rope Model as well.  It would also benefit you to re-read and study Chapter 3 in Hendrix for a better understanding of how to analyze media relations programs specifically.

Can you tell, I'd really like you to study the Rope Model?
