The Jeffrey Lynn Hightower
Memorial Scholarship Endowment
Purpose

The purpose of this fund is to memorialize Jeffrey Lynn Hightower, class of 1986, and to provide scholarships to deserving mathematics majors at East Tennessee State University. Jeffrey held a bachelor of science degree in mathematics and computer science. As a student of East Tennessee State University, Jeffrey was active in both the mathematics and computer science honorary societes as well as Phi Kappa Phi. He was named the 1986 Kappa Mu Epsilon Outstanding Mathematics Student and 1986 Upsilon Pi Epsilon Outstanding Computer Science Student by the mathematics and computer science faculty. Jeffrey earned his master of science degree in computer science from Clemson University.

Description

The endowment is established by his widow, Tammy Gillenwater Hubbard. This is a full endowment, wherein the principal of the fund shall remain intact and only the earnings will be used for scholarships in the Department of Mathematics. Investments and disbursements shall be made in accordance with prevailing East Tennessee State University Foundation policies.

Funding

An initial gift of cash in the amount of $5,000 from Tammy Gillenwater Hubbard with a matching contribution from Lockheed Martin Energy Systems shall establish the endowment. Subsequent contributions, including bequests, from family and friends shall be encouraged.

Criteria

The committee shall consider the following criteria in awarding the scholarhsips. To be eligible for the shcolarship:

  1. Each applicant must have and maintain a 3.25 grade point average. Freshman applicants must have a minimum 3.25 on high school work or the equivalent, or have a minimum ACT composite score of 25.
  2. The recipient must be majoring in mathematics.
