MAA Meeting Minutes

December Meeting

December 3, 2001 7:30 p.m.

Tony Roma's

Items Discussed

  • The 2003 annual joint meetings will be in Baltimore in January.  Funding ideas include t-shirts, tutoring for money during Dead Week, candy bar fundraisers, or breakfast on third floor Gilbreath.  The latter two options might be hairy to work out with Aramark.  Gabe is to ask around about the interest in an "I survived Math 1530" tee.

We should also be considering MAA Math Fest.  It will be in August in Vermont.  It's more geared toward students than some of the other events.  MAA also has travel grants available for this event.  It would appear that about five are interested in Math Fest.

  • Symposium:  We are considering a math activity for AP students or career day instead.  Symposium committee of Dayla, Jason, Michael, Gabe, and Lora to meet the Tuesday after finals at Buck's.

  • Spring Semester Recruiting:  We decided to bowl Tuesday, January 16, 2002, at 8:00 p.m. at Leisure Lanes.  Lora, Jamie, and Ree'L are to design and distribute flyers.  Everyone expected to chip in $10 for bowling.

Attending the Meeting:

Michael Polson, Jason Lewis, Melody Rush, Ree'L Street, Jamie Howard, Dayla Pike, Lora Hart, Gabe Zimmer, Dr. Jeff Knisley, and Tessa Bissette.
