September Meeting

September 24, 2002 7:30 p.m.

ETSU Math Lab

Items Discussed

• Lecture Series:  We will be co-sponsoring the math lecture series.  We will provide refreshments and make flyers.  Jason will be making a sign-up list, and finding out the dates.

• Fundraising:  We are still considering doing a t-shirt fundraiser.  We should be looking for something that will appeal to the faculty.  Everyone is encouraged to talk to people, find neat ideas, and explore other options.  A fundraising committee has been formed.  This committee is composed of Joe Johnson (co-chair), Melody Rush (co-chair), and Larissa Holdsclaw.

• Senior Day/Major Day:  Anant would like for us to help with Senior Day and Major Day.  Mostly we should expect to show up and answer questions about what it's like to be a math major.  Melody, Joe, and Jamie volunteered.

• 2003 National Meeting:  Joe is planning a poster.  Everyone else is encouraged to consider entering a poster.  We will again apply for 606 funding.  Those attending should expect to contribute, and put up a deposit before being added to the trip roster.  Tara Michels and Clayton Clark are a two person committee.  They are to find costs, mileage, make estimates, and fill out the 606 funding application.

• CFF Walk:  Melody, Tara, Clayton, and Dr. Knisley will be participating in the CFF walk as Team MAA.

• Franklin Math Bowl:  Dr. Huang has asked us to help with the Franklin Math Bowl as graders.  The math bowl will be on Saturday, Nov. 16.  Anyone who can volunteer should drop by and let Dr. Huang know.
