You can qualify for the program in one of two ways:

If you are classified as one of the following you will qualify to apply:

BlackNative AmericanPacific IslanderHispanic

OR

If you are a first-generation AND low-income student:

This means that you DO NOT have to be a minority student to apply but let’s see what first-generation and low-income means.

First generation = the biological parent(s) or guardian that you lived with prior to your 18th birthday did not have a four-year degree.

Based on the definition provided are you a first-generation student?

Low-income = means that your TAXABLE income does not exceed the federal guidelines.  If your parents/guardian filed you on their tax return this year then we must use their tax return to determine your eligibility.  If you filed as an independent then we can use your tax return.  The federal guidelines are listed below.  REMEMBER, use your TAXABLE income!  This is usually considerably lower than your REPORTED income.
