Fall Semester
Mountaineering, Leadership, and Survival I (MSCI 1210) - A forum for students to heighten their level of self-confidence while enhancing communication, teamwork, and leadership skills. Provides a series of practical exercises enabling the student to participate as an individual and as a member of a small group in situations of increasing complexity. Low elements of the Basler Challenge course will be incorporated into the instruction as a means of facilitating the team-building experience. Emphasizes ethical considerations for leaders, leadership skills, basic survival skills, marksmanship, and the importance of verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
Spring Semester
Mountaineering, Leadership, and Survival II (MSCI 1220) - Prerequisite: MSCI 1210 or approval of Professor of Military Science. A study of advanced leadership concepts and skills. The course emphasis is on gaining an understanding of the leadership process and the factors that contribute to effective skills in leadership and management. Students will be instructed in advanced climbing, rappelling, survival, land navigation, first aid and drown proofing and the development of training programs related to the previously stated subject areas.
