The Department of Military Science has several programs to assist
its participating students with tuition assistance. For those
students wishing to contract with Army ROTC, we have many different types of scholarships suited for those either looking for a full time career in today's Army or even a part time career in the Reserves or National Guard. The scholarships are rewarded on merit and merit alone.
What Tuition Assistance Offers:
Currently the Department of
Military Science has a total of $60,000 per year for on campus housing
and has several Academic Performance Scholarships valued at
$1,500.00 each per semester
What the Scholarship Offers:
Tuition - up to $20K per year
ETSU tuition approximately - $5,765.00 per year (in state) and
$13,819.00 per year (out of state)
Books - $900 per year
Fees - (vary)
Monthly Tax-Free Stipend for ten months out of the year
Freshman - $300
Sophomore - $350
Junior - $450
Senior -$500
(Prior service personnel are still eligible to draw MGIB benefits)

Year Scholarships (Click Here)
Apply for a 3 or 4 year high school scholarship to over 272 schools that offer ROTC. You can begin the application process between your junior and senior year. The application processes is free, so you have nothing to lose and everything to gain if you meet the eligibility requirements.
Requirements:
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Be between the ages of 17 and 26
- Have a high school GPA of at least 2.50
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Score minimum of 920 on the SAT or 19 on the ACT
- Medical Screening
- Pass an Army Physical Fitness Test
- Not a Single Parent
- Agree to accept a commission and serve in the Army on Active Duty or in a Reserve Component (U.S. Army Reserve or Army National Guard)
High School Scholarships are very competitive and few in number (depending on the school). However, going through the application processes verifies your eligibility and allows you to request an On Campus Based Scholarship through the ROTC detachment.
On Campus Based Scholarships (OCB) (4, 3.5, 3, 2.5, 2 year)
The On Campus Based Scholarship is awarded to those deserving students already enrolled in the ROTC program. The eligibility requirements are the same as the high school scholarship. Individuals pursing an OCB Scholarship must have the desire and be committed to the program and the Army.
Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GRFD) Scholarships
The Army ROTC Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty Scholarship and ARNG “Dedicated” scholarship are very similar scholarships. They are possible for those cadets who are only interested in staying in the Reserve Component upon their commissioning.
Requirements:
- Have 4 semesters remaining before graduation and be a full time student.
- Be an academic junior (min 54 credits by end of sophomore year).
- Have a 2.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale on all previous college work.
- Be recommended by the Professor of Military Science.
- Be a US citizen.
- Be 17 years old before the scholarship is effective.
- Be under 26 years old on June 30 of the year you expect to graduate and receive your officer's commission (An age extension may be granted to veterans who qualify).
- Select an Army approved academic major.
- Agree to accept a commission as an officer in the US Army Reserves or Army National Guard.
- Meet required medical and physical fitness standards.
Non-Scholarship Contract
This contract allows for you to commission into the Army without a scholarship, it can be given by the
University, National Guard or the Reserve Component. The normal time period to contract non-scholarship cadets
is between their sophomore and junior years. Tuition assistance is available through ROTC and the Reserve
components if you call 423.439.5291.
Requirements:
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Be under 32 years of age on day of commissioning. Up to three years may be added on a one-for-one basis for pervious active duty service. (waiverable)
- Have at least 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Meet physical standards
