MUSIC DEPARTMENT ENDOWMENTS

 

 
Lamar Alexander Endowment
Provides scholarships for full time ETSU students participating in activities of the Department of Music and the Johnson City Symphony.
  By audition only.
Endowment Funded.


Paul L. Arrington Scholarship Endowment
Provides scholarships to deserving students that will major in music education.
Endowment not fully funded, needs $10,000 minimum before scholarship given.

Elsie Artz Memorial Scholarship
Provides scholarships for academically talented music majors,
concentrating in piano or strings.
Endowment Funded.


Teresa Bowers Scholarship Endowment
Provides scholarships for voice majors.
  By audition only.
Endowment Funded.

 

Kenton Coe Music Composition Endowment Award
Established in honor of Johnson City native composer, Kenton Coe.
Provides financial assistance to deserving students pursuing a Music degree
with an interest in Music Composition.  Award shall be made by Music Department
Committee appointed by the theory/composition faculty and/or musicology faculty.

Endowment not fully funded, needs $10,000 minimum before scholarship given.

Dr. B. Richard Compton Memorial Scholarship Endowment
In memory of Dr. Benjamin Richard Compton, former chair of the department.

Provides music scholarships to academically talented music major concentrating
in woodwinds, or strings, with first preference to clarinet, second to double reeds,
third to other woodwinds, and fourth to any string instrument.  By audition only.
Endowment Funded.


Floyd Cramer Endowment Fund for Music Scholarships
Provides small, non-renewable awards for music students based on financial need,
department need for special skills, or student merit; provide a talented
student to accompany faculty recitals, student senior recitals and
performing organizations.  By audition only.
Endowment Funded.

 

Marie Hutchison Hunter Music Scholarship Endowment
Provides financial assistance to students who wish to pursue an undergraduate
music degree in piano performance or piano (vocal) music education. 
Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA on all college work.  By audition only.

Endowment Funded.

 

Dr. Carl D. King Vocal Music Education Workshop Fund
Funds workshops beneficial to in-service and pre-service (students) music
educators in area schools and churches.  Fund not activated.
Award made by Department of Music Chair and committee comprised
of two ETSU Friends of Music Board members.

 

Robert LaPella Vocal Performance Scholarship Endowment
Provides scholarship for major in vocal music performance.
Endowment Funded.

 

Walter G. Patton Scholarship
 Provides scholarship for students interested in church music.


Sandy and Jim Powell Choral Music Scholarships
Provides scholarships for students participating in choral music.

Endowment Funded.

Ella Virginia Ross Scholarship Endowment
Provides scholarships for junior or senior music major at ETSU.
 
By audition only.
Endowment Funded.


Mary Florence and Virgil C. Self Scholarship Endowment
Provides scholarships for academically talented music majors concentrating in
keyboard or voice, with first preference given to organ.

Applicants must be rising sophomore, junior or senior with minimum 3.0 GPA.
Endowment Funded.
