Instruction is available for Suzuki students of all ages and levels who study during the year with a trained Suzuki teacher. Students will receive individual instruction in a shared master class format. Group instruction, focusing on the development of tone production and technical fluency, occurs in small classes. Repertoire is polished for the Celebration Concert in a large group class. Students may also choose from a wide array of enrichment classes and special workshops.
Students will be involved with suzuki core classes and activities for a minimum of three hours during each day and may choose to participate in enrichment classes as well as activities in the evenings. Families may check in and register between 1:00 and 5:00 on June 24. The Student Program begins with the Opening Ceremony at 6:00 PM on Sunday, June 24 and ends at 8:00 P.M. on Friday evening, June 29, following the Celebration Concert. All campus lodging plans include a Friday (June 29) night stay.
Performance opportunities are available for all students through play-ins, the Honors Solo Recital, Carnegie Lunchtime Recital, and the Suzuki Celebration Concert.
See Recitals and Concerts and the Recital Audition Form.
Because of the essential role of the Suzuki parent in the success of the child, the Institute offers a parent education program at no additional charge. Speakers will present lectures and lead discussions on topics dealing with Suzuki parenting, child development, and other related issues. Special emphasis will be given to age-specific topics.
A parent or caregiver must be available to attend all classes with Suzuki students. Unless enrolled in the Teen Dorm, all children, students and siblings, under the age of 18 must be accompanied by and under the supervision of their parent, legal guardian or adult chaperone at all times. The registration form must indicate who will serve in this capacity for each child.
This special option allows teenagers to grow both musically and socially in a Suzuki environment designed just for them! The program includes a lodging and activities package that is supervised by adult chaperones. Students in the Teen Dorm will be able to participate in a variety of special activities in addition to the regular activities of the Institute. The Teen Dorm Program is open to students who are age 13 and older as of June 24, 2007. Students in this program must be mature and responsible, and must abide by the policies of the Teen Dorm at all times. Please help your teen decide if this option is right for him/her.
