JOHNSON CITY (June 6, 2013) – East Tennessee State University’s Reece Museum is implementing a Volunteer Program for individuals interested in helping with many aspects of the museum’s operation.
A volunteer orientation meeting for participants will be held Thursday, June 13, from 6-7 p.m. at the museum.
“The Reece Museum Volunteer Program will provide a variety of ways for participants to share their talents and experiences – everything from conducting guided tours, assisting with administrative duties or special events, and working with the museum collection to creating promotional materials,” said Theresa Hammons, museum director. “There are even opportunities to work from home.”
With the recent reopening of the Reece Museum after a $1.5 million capital maintenance project, museum staff have already seen an exponential increase in visitation. New Saturday hours (10 a.m.-3 p.m.), along with after-business hours on Thursdays (4:30-7 p.m.) are also creating opportunities and needs for volunteers.
“As the museum expands its programming and outreach to the community, the challenge is to meet that expansion with the help of an active volunteer base,” Hammons said. “We see the Reece Museum Volunteer Program as a critical component in the museum’s long-term success.”Those interested in volunteering at the Reece Museum are encouraged to attend the June 13 orientation.
