JOHNSON CITY (June 24, 2013) – As part of an ongoing effort to improve pedestrian safety on campus, East Tennessee State University has restricted two highly used parking lots to one-way traffic.
The two areas – Lot 29 and Lot 30 – are directly across from University School on the northwest side of Dossett Hall, the ETSU administration building. Effective tomorrow (June 25), motorists can only enter Lot 30 and can only use Lot 29 as an exit.
“Again, as with all traffic alterations we have made on campus in recent years, this change is 100 percent about pedestrian safety,” said Dr. David Collins, ETSU Vice President for Finance and Administration. “Up until now, drivers exiting Lot 30 turned directly into a crosswalk. That is an extremely busy crosswalk, especially at the beginning and end of the day at University School.”
Collins said the recommendation was made by the Parking, Traffic, and Security Advisory Committee. Arrows rerouting traffic have been painted on the lots, and additional signage is being installed this week.
