JOHNSON CITY (October 18, 2013) — The East Tennessee State University student organization Silent Bucs will celebrate Deaf Awareness Week beginning Monday, Oct. 21. All events are free and open to the public.
Monday and Wednesday, Oct. 21 and 23: A bake sale and T-shirt sale will be held from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. in the area between the D.P. Culp University Center and the Amphitheatre. Silent Bucs will disseminate information about deafness and raise funds for their organization.
Tuesday, Oct. 22: The Amphitheatre will be the setting for an exploration of deaf culture and history through speakers and skits from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. The presentations will be both voiced and signed to accommodate hearing and deaf members of the audience.
Friday, Oct. 25: There will be a Deaf Awareness Week Culmination Courtyard Celebration from 1:30-4:30 p.m. in the courtyard at the Wayne G. Basler Center for Physical Activity, with old-fashioned games and fellowship.
