JOHNSON CITY (Oct. 25, 2013) – A tailgate event celebrating East Tennessee State University’s Homecoming will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, from noon-3 p.m.
This event, featuring activities for Buccaneers of all ages, will be held on the ETSU quad – the newly constructed green space in the area between Brooks Gym, Ball Hall, Gilbreath Hall, Sam Wilson Hall and the Campus Center Building. The event includes a luncheon, inflatables, music provided by ETSU entertainers, and a “one-rope bridge” and rappelling from Brooks Gym coordinated by the Eddie Reed Ranger Company and cadets from the ETSU Army ROTC program.
Scheduled to speak during the event are ETSU President Dr. Brian Noland, Head Football Coach Carl Torbush and Phillip Fulmer, the Hall of Fame coach now serving ETSU as a consultant and special assistant to the athletic director for football.
The tailgate is a highlight of the class reunions planned for the classes of 1973, 1983, 1993 and 2003. Yearbooks and memorabilia will be on display, and former classmates will have an opportunity to share memories and explore new friendships during the reunion, which is sponsored by the ETSU National Alumni Association (NAA).
The lunch menu includes pulled barbecue pork, hamburgers, vegetable burgers, grilled corn-on-the-cob, Polynesian coleslaw, baked beans, apple crisp, cranberry-nut crisp and beverages.
Participants may attend any or all three of the Buccaneer athletic events held that day: women’s basketball vs. Shepherd at 1:30 p.m. and men’s basketball vs. Mars Hill at 4 p.m. at the ETSU/Mountain States Health Alliance Athletic Center (Minidome), as well as men’s soccer vs. Lipscomb at 7 p.m. at Summers-Taylor Stadium.
The Homecoming Tailgate, also a part of ETSU’s Family Weekend, is co-sponsored by ETSU’s New Student and Family Programs, Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, Student Government Association, NAA, and Adult, Commuter and Transfer Services.
A special package that includes a food ticket, a T-shirt and tickets to the basketball games is available online through Monday, Oct. 28, for $20 for the public and free for students with ID. To purchase, visit www.etsu.edu/family and click to register under Family Weekend.
