JOHNSON CITY (Oct. 21, 2013) – Pianist Chih-Long Hu will perform in the Powell Piano Series at East Tennessee State University on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the Mathes Hall auditorium.
In the program, which includes works by Scarlatti, Mozart, Beethoven, Scriabin and Prokofiev, Hu will explore the sonata, which he calls “the most developed and sophisticated genre in music history and theory.”
Hu, the Tennessee Music Teachers Association’s 2013 Teacher of the Year, is an associate professor of piano in the ETSU Department of Music. He has performed extensively as a concert soloist, recitalist and chamber musician in Asia, Europe and North America. His CDs, “Formosa Caprices” and “Rachmaninov: Etudes-Tableaux,” have received critical acclaim.
The Department of Music’s Powell Piano Series began in the fall of 2007 in honor of Jim and Sandy Powell and is dedicated to the advancement of solo piano performance by outstanding national and international artists.
