JOHNSON CITY (March 28, 2014) – Finnish pianist Matti Raekallio will perform in the Powell Piano Series at East Tennessee State University on Friday, April 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the Brown Hall auditorium.
He will perform a program of works by Beethoven, Rautavaara, Sibelius, Wagner and Liszt.
Raekallio, a prominent concert pianist who is on the faculty of The Juilliard School, has received critical acclaim for his concerts and recordings, notably his three-CD set of the complete Prokofiev Piano Sonatas. He made his American debut in 1981 at Carnegie Hall. Since then, he has made regular tours of the United States, performing in solo recitals and with several American symphony orchestras.
The Department of Music’s Powell Piano Series began in the fall of 2007 in honor of Jim and Sandy Powell and is dedicated to the advancement of solo piano performance by outstanding national and international artists.
