JOHNSON CITY (April 23, 2014) — The East Tennessee State University student Advertising Club will hold the annual TOMS One Day Without Shoes event on Tuesday, April 29, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the outdoor Amphitheater.
One Day Without Shoes is a national event sponsored by the TOMS Shoes organization to help raise awareness for the plight of children around the world who are forced to live their lives without shoes on their feet, which can lead to life-threatening diseases and injuries.
While the event is meant to make an impact globally, Matt Stacy, president of the ETSU AD Club, hopes to make a difference locally by asking everyone to donate a pair of gently used shoes to be given to one of Johnson City’s local non-profit organizations. The Ad Club’s goal is to collect 200 pairs of such shoes.
“One of the benefits of an event such as TOMS One Day Without Shoes,” he says, “is the opportunity to make a difference on a local, national and global scale. You don’t have to go to Guatemala to find people who live without shoes; they are here in our community, as well.”
The Ad Club TOMS One Day Without Shoes event will feature a barefoot walk around the ETSU campus so that students may gain insight into the lives of the shoeless children around the world.
Games allowing participants to win giveaways will be sponsored by several local businesses.
Those on campus and the general public are invited to come out and kick off their shoes to support a great cause and give back to the community.
