JOHNSON CITY (April 15, 2014) – Polish pianist Krystian Tkaczewski will perform in the Powell Piano Series at East Tennessee State University on Friday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the Brown Hall auditorium.
He will perform a program of works by Chopin, Tchaikovsky and Pletnev.
Tkaczewski’s performance career has taken him to the stages of 25 countries. His numerous honors and awards include the grand prize in the European Piano Competition of Bari, Italy, and first prize in the American Protégé Piano and Strings Competition. He is the founder and jury president of the Chopin International Piano Competition in Hartford, Conn.
When he made his Carnegie Hall debut in April 2007, “New York Concert Review” critic Anthony Aibel wrote: “Tkaczewski was elegant, showed in-depth knowledge, played with passion, (and) showed powerhouse technique. . . . He shows a natural affinity for the music of his homeland.”
The Department of Music’s Powell Piano Series began in the fall of 2007 in honor of Jim and Sandy Powell and is dedicated to the advancement of solo piano performance by outstanding national and international artists.
