Dr. Kate Beatty Elected Secretary of TPHA’s Public Health Academics Section

Dr. Kate Beatty, Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Services Management and Policy, has been elected Secretary for the Public Health Academic Section of the Tennessee Public Health Association (TPHA).  TPHA is the official professional organization for those engaged or interested in public health services and is endorsed by the administration of the Tennessee Department of Health. TPHA is an affiliate member of the American Public Health Association and the National Association of County and City Health Officials.  Dr. Beatty states, “Being secretary of the Public Health Academic Section will help me learn more about other programs and schools engaged in public health across the state.  We hope to continue to engage students in TPHA and also share and collaborate on best practices in the care and education of the public health workforce.”

The section is beginning its second year as a section of the Tennessee Public Health Association.  Its mission is to provide a forum for those members of TPHA who are primarily involved with educating the next generation of public health and related-health professionals. The Academic Section will provide a venue for academicians to think collaboratively about best practices in education and teaching; to identify and support unique attributes of academic programs; to facilitate pathways to assure the translation of research and knowledge to practice; and, to facilitate networking opportunities for purposes of collaborative teaching, service, and research. The Academic Section primarily targets members who are in academic positions in public health and related academic disciplines, including, but not limited to, nursing, medicine, and allied health. 

As secretary, Dr. Beatty will maintain records of the Academic Section and Executive Committee, conduct correspondence of the Academic Section, coordinate with the TPHA website personnel for updates as necessary, prepare and submit an annual budget and activities report to the TPHA Executive Director and approval all expenditures on the part of the section.  Dr. Beatty states, “I am honored and excited to participate in a section of TPHA vital to continuing to educate the public health workforce.”
