Admission Criteria at the Time of Application
- The applicant must have a bachelor’s degree in another field.
- The applicant must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.60 on a 4.0 scale on all college level
work as computed by East Tennessee State University (ETSU). Developmental studies/remedial course work is not
included in the calculation for admission.
- The applicant must have completed, or have in progress
during the semester they apply, all of the following courses or their equivalents: HSCI
2230/31 Intro to Microbiology; Math 1530 Probability and Statistics; HSCI 2010/11 Anatomy and Physiology I; HSCI
2020/21 Anatomy and Physiology II.
- The applicant must have earned a minimum of a “C” (2.0) in each of the required health science related courses.
- Each HSCI course may be repeated one time.
- Only two HSCI courses may be repeated to achieve a minimum of “C” (2.0).
Application/Selection Process
- Student applies to University as a second-degree student
for the summer term, and indicates an interest in the B.S.N. degree. You must be fully admitted to ETSU to be
eligible for this program by the deadline date.
- Students make formal application to the College of Nursing B.S.N.
major by February 1. You must have completed or have in progress
during the fall semester you apply, all prerequisite courses and meet all other
admission requirements. Applications are available by clicking
on the link above or in the Office of Academic Programs and Student
Services, Rm. 230 Nicks Hall.
- Eligible applicants will be rank-ordered by cumulative college level grade point average. Conditional admission
will be offered to the top ranked students.
- A final verification of eligibility will be made once grades become available. Students
who become ineligible will
be administratively dropped from nursing courses and should reapply for admission when they become eligible.
Progression Criteria
- To progress in the curriculum, each fully admitted student must earn a minimum of “C” (2.0) in each nursing course.
Students who are unsuccessful in meeting these requirements may appeal to the College of Nursing Student Affairs
Committee. Students are expected to enroll full-time, though a
part-time course of study can be developed to meet individual
needs if necessary.
Fully admitted students can expect to complete the program in five semesters including the summer admitted.

semester only.
