The Epsilon Sigma Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, International Honor Society of Nursing, was established at the College of Nursing in spring semester 1982.
The purposes of the organization are to recognize the achievement of scholarship of superior quality, to recognize the development of leadership qualities, to foster high professional standards, to encourage and support research and other creative work in nursing, and to strengthen commitment on the part of individuals to the ideas and purposes of the profession of nursing.
Membership in Sigma Theta Tau is an honor conferred on students in baccalaureate and graduate programs who have demonstrated excellence in their nursing programs. Graduates of baccalaureate programs demonstrating excellence in leadership positions in nursing are also eligible for membership consideration. Membership is available by invitation through active chapters and assumes acceptance of the purposes of the society and responsibility to participate in achieving the goals consistent with the professional and scholastic character of Sigma Theta Tau.
Eligibility for student membership includes:
Evidence of professional leadership ability or a potential ability; college level GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (the number of students from any one class shall not exceed one-third of the total number expected to graduate from that class and shall rank not lower than the highest 35 percent of their class in scholarship); invitation to membership during a fall semester ceremony; presence at the Induction Ceremony: and payment of all fees before admission to membership.
Eligible students may apply for the College of Nursing Honors Program at the end of the first semester of the BSN program.
Interested RN-BSN students can apply at the time of their application for admission. Criteria include an overall GPA of 3.2
