Job shadowing enables young people to shadow a nurse as he or she goes through a normal day of clinical practice, providing an up-close and “real life” look at how they apply the skills learned in the classroom to jobs in the nursing profession.

This program is designed to motivate students to expand and meet their educational career goals and develop positive working relationships within the community. Job shadowing gives students a new perspective on their studies, motivation, insight into career decisions, and greater understanding of the vital roles of a nurses.

Who is Eligible?

Current and prospective BSN Students.

What is Required?

All students must submit a state issued ID (i.e. valid Tennessee drivers license) and proof of health insurance. Students admitted to the BSN major who cannot provide proof of health insurance will be eligible when their clinical health requirements are up-to-date.

What can I expect from my Job Shadowing Experience?

• Increased understanding of the nursing profession and the required daily responsibilities
• Motivation, encouragement and support in the pursuit of your educational and career goals
• Demonstration of the important relationship between education and a nursing career

• Be prepared

o Be on time and report to the appropriate contact

o Positively represent yourself as a member of ETSU and the College of Nursing

o Full engage yourself in your job shadowing experience

o Enter your job shadowing experience with a willingness to explore a variety of nursing responsibilities.
