Dr. Linda Garrett
Assistant Professor
Dr. Linda Garrett is an Instructor in Collaboration in the Doctoral
program and an instructor in the Nurse Practitioner Program (young
and middle pediatrics and women’s health). Much of her research
concerns sexual abusers. She has completed research on the
childhood experiences of incarcerated male child sexual abusers;
and, currently, she is the primary investigator in a study that
examines childhood experiences of incarcerated female child sexual
abusers. This research is funded by a RDC grant.
In addition to her
work with incarcerated sexual abusers, Dr. Garrett is also a
co-investigator in a HPV study which examines perceptions of women
in Appalachia regarding the HPV vaccine; and, she is examining the
“Show me the Money” program that was developed by ETSU students.
She plans to research the success of the program from students’ and
faculty’s points of view.
At this time, she
has two articles in progress and she plans to submit her research
with male participants by the fall. She also anticipates publishing
at least two articles on the study with females, a minimum of two
articles on the HPV study, and plans to write an article on the
“Show me the Money” program.
Her plans for future research include: examining family dynamics in
abusive families; exploring HPV understanding among adolescent
females in Appalachian areas; and, conducting research associated
with students from the Alternative School. She would like to
develop a tool for use by primary care providers to identify at-risk
families for child abuse. She also hopes to develop the “Show me
the Money” program into a marketable program for alternative schools
across the US. For more information on Dr. Garrett’s research,
outcomes, and teaching, please contact her at:
