Active Researchers - Ghaffari

Dr. Masoud Ghaffari

Dr. Masoud Ghaffari is an Assistant Professor of Adult Nursing who has been at ETSU since 2002.  He specializes in a variety of areas including nursing and health education, nursing management and leadership, educational psychology, and medical technology.  One of his primary research areas is developing the Trinity Paradigm of Intelligence, which seeks a unified theory of human intelligence.

In addition to his work on intelligence and his teaching at ETSU, Dr. Ghaffari also has six research studies in progress.  His study “Perceived Notions of Cultural Diversity: Before and After Being Exposed to the Host Culture” evaluates how nursing students’ self and cultural perceptions change after they study abroad.  In a similar vein, his study “Exploring Nursing Students’ Perceptions of Culture and its Importance in Nursing Practice,” which is co-authored by Dr. Shell, evaluates the interaction between nursing students and culture in order to improve nursing curriculum.  Dr. Ghaffari and Dr. Shell are also exploring the techniques and strategies by which nursing students analyze, synthesize, and make connections among diverse nursing concepts in their study “How Do We Make Connections: Exploring Techniques and Strategies Used by Nursing Students to Learn New Concepts.”  Further, Dr. Ghaffari and Dr. Shell are also examining the nature of caring from graduating nursing students’ perspectives in their study “Exploring Fourth-Year Nursing Students Perceptions of the Caring Concept.”  In “Assessing the Effectiveness of a Physical Exercise Project in Enhancing First-Year Nursing Students’ Overall Health,” Dr. Ghaffari assesses how exercise enhances health and learning.  Finally, Dr. Ghaffari’s study “Comparing Nursing Faculty and Nursing Students’ Thoughts and Feelings about the Dress Code in the Clinical Setting” explores and compares both students and faculty members' views on this topic.

Dr. Ghaffari's research interests are diverse and he has many plans for future research projects.  For more information on Dr. Ghaffari’s projects past, present, and future, see his website:  http://faculty.etsu.edu/Ghaffari  or contact him via email at ghaffari@etsu.edu.
