Instructional Framework

Workshop style - This is a demonstration and hands-on guided practice for awareness and skill training.

Workshop setup - One computer with the Acrobat Writer program installed per student.  Instructor also requires a computer with the Writer program installed, connected to an LCD projector.

Gain attention – During the workshop introduction, the instructor explains the difference between the Acrobat Reader and Writer software programs.  The instructor reviews the goals and outline for the workshop, then shows the short movie that came with the Acrobat Writer 4.0 program.

Identify objective –The instructor reviews the goals and outline for the workshope, and asks each attendee how they hope to use the Writer program, and if they have purchased it yet and/or have access to the program.  Explain the objectives in general terms as described in the workshop handout.

Recall prior learning – Ask students to think of occasions when they have seen .pdf files on the Internet, including forms as well as reports and brochures.

Presentation – The instructor may use the tutorial files that came with Acrobat 4.0 to conduct the hands-on portion of the workshop.

Guided learning – Follow the workshop handout to demonstrate each of the functions as described.  Have the students perform the steps simultaneously.  Provide further explanation as necessary.

Elicit performance - Encourage students ask questions and to think about how they may use these functions in their daily jobs.

Provide feedback - Continue answering questions and individually helping students.

Assess performance- Review objectives with students and check comprehension.  Assist as needed.

Enhance retention/transfer – Ask the students about how they may use the features of the program in their daily jobs.  Help them to see the value of using .pdf files when sharing documents, whether online, across platforms, etc.
