
Workshop setup - One computer with Internet access per student. Microsoft PowerPoint software loaded and set up for use, including sound and network access. Instructor requires computer with MS PowerPoint (including sound), and a LCD projector.
Gain attention - Before class, the instructor creates and reviews by developing a simple PowerPoint.
Identify objective - Explain the objectives in general terms as described in the course outline on the PowerPoint Presentation.
Recall prior learning - Before hands on learning begins, review basic features taught in Introduction to PowerPoint workshop.
Presentation - Using MS PowerPoint, begin creating a simple PowerPoint presentation. Show how easy it is to create this presentation’s content and emphasize the content’s organization and how easy it is to insert clipart and images. After creating the content, start adding the advanced features outlined in the course description.
Guided learning – As you make your PowerPoint presentation have the students either follow your lead or make a presentation on their own. Reinforce sound design by emphasizing good content then added embellishments.
Elicit performance - Encourage students try new features on their own. Emphasize that every PowerPoint should be different depending on the points that they are trying to make. Walk around and suggest new ideas to students as they practice creating their own PowerPoint’s.
Provide feedback - Continue making suggestions and individually helping students.
Assess performance- Review objectives with students and check comprehension. Assist as needed.
Enhance retention/transfer Encourage students to walk around and see what their peers have made. Focus on the positive examples and how this can be used as a teaching tool in and out of the classroom and using good instruction design practices.
