Advanced Netscape Composer
Instructional Framework

Workshop style - This is a demonstration and hands-on guided practice for awareness and skill training.

Workshop setup - One computer with Internet access per student.  Netscape Composer software loaded and set up for use, including sound and network access.  Instructor requires computer with Netscape Composer (including sound), and a LCD projector.

Gain attention - Before class, the instructor creates a web page with a general overview of the class including brief objectives for the learners.  The instructor will also briefly spend time reviewing the fundamental features of Netscape Composer taught in Beginning Netscape Composer.

Identify objective - Explain the objectives in general terms as described in the course outline on the instructor's web page.

Recall prior learning - Before hands on learning begins, review basic features taught in Beginning Netscape Composer.

Presentation - Using Netscape Composer, begin creating tables, hypertext links, videos and movies, and incorporating sound into your presentation.  Show how easy it is to create links to these types of media.

Guided learning - After you have demonstrated these advanced features, have the students begin using these features on their workstations.  If concepts are not concrete, show them the step by step the process involved on the instructor's web page.

Elicit performance - Encourage students to download and create new links to various media types.  Walk around and suggest new ideas to students as they practice creating tables and using media in their web pages.

Provide feedback - Continue making suggestions and individually helping students.

Assess performance- Review objectives with students and check comprehension.  Assist as needed.

Enhance retention/transfer – Show examples of different student web pages that have been created to the rest of the class.  Focus on the positive examples and how this can be used as a teaching tool in and out of the classroom and using good instruction design practices.
