Digital Telephone Instructions

This guide is for the Meridian M2616 modular telephone set (shown at right with
the optional display unit). A brief explanation is given to
explain how to use the telephone and some of its system features. System features are the special functions
your telephone will perform in addition to making and receiving calls. For more detailed information, please print

System Features
Hold allows users to place the handset on the cradle without
disconnecting the other party.

Press Hold. The arrow flashes beside the line on hold.

To return to the call, press the key beside the flashing arrow.
Transfer allows users, after answering or originating a
call, to direct that call to another telephone extension. The connection
between the caller and the person to whom the call is being transferred is
complete when you hang up the receiver.
To transfer a call to another extension:

Press Transfer. The call
is placed on hold and you hear dial tone.

Dial the five-digit extension number to which you wish to transfer the
call.

Press Transfer again, either when you hear a ring tone, or after you
talk privately to the person to whom you are transferring the call.
Pickup
The Call Pickup feature allows you to answer a call ringing
on an extension within your call pickup group.
Please call the Help Desk at 9-4648 to change or assign numbers to your
call pickup group.

Lift the handset.

Press the key for an idle line.

Press Call Pickup key.
Conference Calling lets you connect three parties, including
yourself. If you have more than three
parties to be included in the call, please call the Help Desk at 9-4648 in
advance of the conference call to arrange for conference call equipment to be
set up in your office.

While on a call, press Conference. The other party is on hold and
you hear dial tone.

Dial the next number to add to the conference. When the call is
answered, you may talk privately with the person before they join the
conference. If they do not answer, press the line key.

Press Conference again to join all callers.
If necessary, repeat the procedure to include up to 3 parties in the
conference.
Call Forwarding automatically routes incoming calls intended
for a particular extension to the extension you designate.
To forward your calls to another extension:

Press Forward. The arrow flashes.

Dial the extension to which you want to forward your calls.

Press Forward. The arrow remains on.
To cancel call forwarding from your extension:

Press Forward. The arrow turns off.
To reinstate call forwarding to the same number:

Press Forward twice. The arrow turns on again.
Last Number Redial allows you to redial the last number
dialed from your telephone.

Lift the headset.
-
Press a free line key.
Emergency Dialing

In an emergency: Dial 911

ETSU Police: Dial 439-4480
Local and Toll-Free Dialing

Campus numbers: Dial only the last five digits
-
VA Hospital numbers: Dial 78 + five-digit extension

Local, off campus: Dial 8 + the seven-digit number

Toll-free: Dial 8 + 1 + toll-free number
Long Distance Dialing

Dial 8 + area code + seven-digit number
International Dialing

Dial 8 + 011 + country code + city code + local telephone number

The country code and city code, if any, can be found on pages 10 and 11
of the Sprint telephone directory.

University telephones are not automatically assigned international
dialing privileges. Please contact the Help Desk at 9-4648 to enter a
request to have your extension set up for international dialing.
Information Dialing
-
Campus Information:
Dial 439-1000 or 0.
-
Directory Assistance: Dial 8 + 1 + area code + 555-1212.
