CONFIGURING
OUTLOOK EXPRESS TO ACCESS YOUR ETSU E-MAIL ACCOUNT

Open
Outlook Express. |

Step 2 |
Click
Tools
and select
Accounts.

Click on the
Mail
tab. Click
Add
and select
Mail.

Step 4 |
In the
Display Name field, type your
First
and Last Name, then click
Next.

Step 5 |
In the
E-mail
address field, type your
user
ID@access.etsu.edu
Example: doe@access.etsu.edu
Click
Next.

Step 6 |
In the
My
incoming mail server is a field, select
POP3
if you want your messages to be downloaded from the mail
server to your hard drive. If you will be checking your
mail from several different computers, select
IMAP
for this field—this will leave your messages on the server
so that they can be accessed from any machine where you
check your mail.
In the
Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) server field
type:
access.etsu.edu
In the
Outgoing mail (SMTP) server field type:
access.etsu.edu
Click
Next.

Step 7 |
In the
Account name field, type your
User ID.
In the
Password field, type the password you set when
you activated your e-mail account.
Click
Next.

Click
Finish.

Click
Close.
If you selected
POP3
in Step 6, then you are finished—simply click on your Inbox
to see if you have any mail.
If you selected
IMAP
in Step 6, you will receive the following message:
Would
you like to download a list of the available IMAP folders?
Click
Yes.
You will notice that a new account called
access.etsu.edu has been created on the left side
of the main Outlook Express screen. This account has its
own Inbox—this is your ETSU E-Mail. |
INSTRUCTION ON HOW TO FILTER MAIL USING OUTLOOK EXPRESS PROVIDED
TO YOU BY OIT HELP DESK
1.
From the Inbox folder, on the
Tools
menu, select Message
Rules,
and click Blocked
Senders List..

2. Click Add.

3. Type in the e-mail
address that you want to block, then click OK.

Notes
- Blocking a sender applies to standard
POP mail only. It does not apply to HTTP mail (Hotmail) or
IMAP messages.
- To remove a name from the Blocked
Senders list, click the Tools menu, point to Message
Rules, and then click Blocked Senders List.
