The ETSU wireless network is available to ETSU students, faculty, and staff. If you have a wireless adapter (wireless card) in your computer that supports 802.11g, and the computer is within signal range, you shiould be able to connect to the ETSU network via a wireless connection. Security for all ETSU Wireless Access Points is enabled by PEAP (Protected Extensible Authentication Protocol).

  1. Click on Start, Control Panel, then Network Connections.
  2. Right mouse click on the wireless network connection and select Properties.
  3. Click on the Wireless Networks Tab.
  4. The wireless network will be named ETSUWiFi.
  5. In the Preferred networks window, highlight ETSUWiFi and click Properties.

  6. In the ETSUWiFi properties dialogue box, be sure the Network Authentication field says WPA2.
  7. The Data encryption should be set to AES.

  8. Now click the Authentication tab:
  9. Place a check in the box by Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network.
  10. Select Protected EAP (PEAP) as the EAP type.
  11. Place a check in the box by Authenticate as computer when computer information is available.

  12. Now click the Properties button.
  13. Uncheck the Validate server certificate box.

  14. Now click the Configure button.
  15. Uncheck the box by Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any).

  16. Click OK to close the window.
  17. Click on the OK button to get out of the "Protected EAP Properties" screen. Then click on the OK button to get out of the "Wireless Network" properties screen. After that, click on the Close button.

    In the lower right-hand part of the screen, you should get a little bubble like what's shown below. Click on it to get the login prompt to come up.

  18. At this screen, simply enter your ETSU username, your password and use ETSU for the Logon domain. Click on the OK button.
  19. It will take about 15 seconds and then you should be logged into the wireless network. You may need to reboot the computer for the connection to work.
