Wireless @ ETSU
Below, you will find links to setup instructions for configuring your wireless interface
for connectivity at ETSU. The campus maps page will
show you where we have supported wireless signal. (On that page, click the check box labeled
"Wi-Fi Hotspots.") Please note our wireless network policy.

OIT cannot offer official support for Wi-Fi connectivity on handheld devices.
This includes PDAs, smart phones, iPods, and other similar devices. The instructions offered
here are for the convenience of those who are comfortable making configuration changes without
assistance. Please do not contact OIT for technical support for your handheld device.
For iPhone / iPod Touch issues, limited support is offered by the eLearning
Department. They can be reached at
or by phone at 439-8611.

Although it is possible to configure devices for which we have not provided directions, OIT
cannot offer support for such devices. To connect an unsupported device to our wireless network,
you can try using the following steps as a guideline:
- Make sure you are in an area where we have wireless
coverage.
- Configure your wireless device to connect using 802.1X authentication. Traditionally,
devices should be configured for PEAP, using the EAP-MSCHAP v2 authentication method. In some
cases where PEAP does not work or is not available, LEAP and WPA2 Enterprise have also
occasionally worked. We do not use WEP for authentication. The key is provided
automatically when authenticating over 802.1X.
- For handheld devices, you might need to download and sync a security certificate. Once the certificate file
has been copied to your handheld, rename it to have a .cer extension, then import the
certificate into your handheld's wireless configuration.
- For connection instability in Windows XP, try installing this set of
patches developed by Microsoft (unified by OIT for simplicity).
