With the assistance of the Emerging Technology Center, the Office of eLearning conducts the Student Assessment of Instruction (SAI) in Desire2Learn for online courses. Only those courses designated with a 9xx section number and WEB instruction method will be considered for the SAI. (Please see the Course Creationpage for more information about properly building courses in Banner.)
Online SAIs are conducted online through D2L during the same time frame as the on-ground course SAIs. We will email online course instructors three to four weeks before the start of the SAI to determine who is interested in evaluating their online courses through D2L. Departmental chairs or executive aides may request SAIs for online courses within their department but they must forward the faculty member's original request or include the faculty member in the request sent to the Office of eLearning. We will only enter or modify an instructor's D2L site with their express consent, or in the event of an emergency. Please see the university's policy on instructor access.
For courses that are to be evaluated online a widget will be added to the course homepage above the News widget that is visible only to students. Where synchronous online courses have been combined with on-ground courses in D2L, we will allow the SAI widget to be viewed and accessed by only those students in the online section. The widget contains a link to the SAI form and students are prompted to complete the evaluation upon entering the course site. Students may complete the evaluation at any time during the available period.
Results will be distributed through email to faculty after the semester has completed. Deans and department chairs will be able to view SAI results by logging into the application created by the ETC. Instructions for logging in to the system are emailed to deans and department chairs each semester.
