Ensuring Patient Safety Through Drug Stability
Pharmacists are often called upon to prepare medications that are not commercially available, due to patient specific needs. Sometimes, the expiration dates for these compounded products are unknown. Dr. Stacy Brown’s research group conducts drug stability investigations for said products, providing guidance to pharmacists and hospitals on scientifically verified beyond-use dates. Some of the drugs studied include lansoprazole, buprenorphine, sildenafil, vancomycin, pyrimethamine, and lidocaine.
