At the beginning of the summer, teachers will work with their
faculty mentor to define their research project for the summer.
There are a number of different options, depending upon the interest
and experience of the teachers. Here is a partial list of possible
activities that teachers may participate in:
Visible light and infrared monitoring
of variable stars.
Projects involving the ETSU radio
telescope.
Analysis of archival data from
NASA satellites, for example,
from the Spitzer or COBE DIRBE infrared telescopes,
or the IUE, SPEAR, FUSE, or GALEX ultraviolet
telescopes.
Computer simulations of interacting galaxies using the ETSU
computer cluster.
Development of web-based astronomical activities for their own classrooms
using on-line databases.
Other activities are also possible.
